Description
Permanent deformation of rolling element or raceway surfaces due to contact stresses exceeding the material yield strength
Causes
-
Brinelling – overloading by static or impact load
- Installation and handling damage – impact between bearing and assembly components during handling and installation
- Debris denting – over rolling of hard or soft particle debris
Multiple brinell marks on a cup raceway resulting from impact during service.
Brinell marks on a cylindrical bearing outer race resulting from mishandling during installation.
Brinell mark near the end of a cylindrical roller that was impacted during installation.
Large hard particle debris dent on a cylindrical inner race.
Soft particle debris denting on a cylindrical outer race.
